Topics

The program adopts a blended learning approach self-paced online learning and clinical practice with patients in a clinical setting.

Face to face lectures (6hr):

  • Patient history taking and note keeping guidelines (dental charting)
  • Surface anatomy and landmarks of intro-extra oral tissues
  • Caries disgnosis using ICDAS classification
  • Informed consent and record

In person session (SIM clinic, 6hr)

  • Skills and instrument used to perform oral and dental examination

Learning outcomes

  • Obtain and record a relevant history of the individual’s medical, social, dietary, and oral health status
  • Examine health, disease, and abnormalities of the dentition, mouth and associated structures
  • Select necessary clinical, pathology and other diagnostic procedures and interpret results
  • Maintain accurate, consistent, legible and contemporaneous records of patient management and protect patient privacy.

Course delivery method

6 hours of self-paced on line learning, followed by 6 hours of in-person training at the simulation clinic.

Course pre-requisites 

Prior completion of training required for registration as an Oral Health Therapist or Dental Hygienist in Australia.
