Sleep Science for Healthcare Professionals: Improving Patient Outcomes

Boost patient care with essential, evidence-based sleep skills.

Sleep is one of the most powerful — and most overlooked — drivers of health. Across healthcare settings, sleep disruption impacts mood, cognition, safety, recovery, and long-term wellbeing, yet most clinicians receive little formal training in sleep science or practical sleep care.

The University of Sydney’s short course, Sleep Science for Healthcare Professionals: Improving Patient Outcomes, is designed to address that gap. This fully online, 10-hour course equips non-sleep medicine clinicians with the knowledge and confidence to recognise sleep problems and support patients using evidence-based strategies.

You’ll gain clear, clinically relevant insights into sleep and circadian rhythms, healthy sleep across the lifespan, and common issues such as insomnia, shiftwork, jetlag, and obstructive sleep apnoea. The focus is practical — helping you apply sleep strategies immediately to improve patient wellbeing and outcomes.

Ideal for doctors, nurses, psychologists, pharmacists, allied health professionals, and other clinicians, the course is delivered through engaging online modules, curated readings, and two live webinars with leading sleep experts from the University of Sydney’s Charles Perkins Centre.

With almost half of Australian adults experiencing sleep problems, demand for sleep-literate clinicians is growing. Designed for busy professionals, this flexible online course strengthens your practice without disrupting your workload.

Support better sleep. Improve patient outcomes. Build confidence with evidence-based sleep health skills from one of Australia’s leading universities.
