“Seeing what you hear” using acoustic analysis is an invaluable objective measure in the multi-dimensional evaluation of patients.

Elevate your knowledge and skills in diagnosing voice disorders and analysing the recorded voice through our comprehensive acoustic analysis course led by expert A/Prof Cate Madill. Tailored for speech-language pathologists, ENT specialists and voice researchers, this program combines concise online lectures with guided online support and real-world case studies. Gain practical expertise in utilising acoustic measures within specific patient contexts, integrating advanced concepts and the latest insights required for comprehensive clinical assessment and research.

 

Learning outcomes

  • Explain the basics of sound production, its measurement, and why and when acoustic analysis is used in clinical practice.
  • Identify which programs are appropriate for which acoustic measures and relevant factors that would affect the choice of equipment, software and recording environment.
  • Demonstrate skills in selecting the appropriate voice sample for the appropriate vocal measure (voice quality, loudness, pitch) using appropriate PRAAT settings.
  • Analyse voice samples and interpret the acoustic values measured with respect to a specific patient context .

Course delivery method

Online. The Acoustic Analysis course will mainly comprise self-study online learning activities that you can complete at a time that suits you between 26 August - 27 September. It will also comprise a single 1.5h live, interactive online workshop delivered by Associate Professor Cate Madill with the opportunity for Q&A, which will take place Saturday 14 September for clinicians and Saturday 21 September for researchers (time TBC).

The total volume of learning/activities for this course will come to approximately 15 hours.
